Beauty Tips from Natalie Coughlin

Natalie Couglin-Chispa MagazineIt is always a challenge to look your best if you are a sports personality. As impossible as it seems, 12-time Olympic medalist Natalie Coughlin offers a different insight into looking your best always even without applying any form of beauty product. To her, she only uses those products when doing TV commercials or promoting another product because it is then that she is the face or image of the company in question. In that light, Coughlin has some of her basic tips when it comes to being camera ready at all times.

  1. Use Sunscreen for the skin

Sunscreens contain particular ingredients to meet its goals for the various skin types. They don’t have an odor, a feature that is particularly helpful to those with sensitive skins. Lotions or creams with odor cause skin irritation and this situation worsens if the applied makeup mixes with sweat. Sunscreen is very helpful to those who are constantly exposed to the UV rays from the sun. Coughlin stresses the importance of sunscreen saying that she has a habit of applying it to her skin, even when there is no sun.

  1. Healthy diet is good for a natural skin

Natalie Coughlin has a healthy diet, plenty of fruits and vegetables alongside other greens. This is considering her career and she says a vegetarian diet is her best combination. Fruits such as cucumbers and water melons are high in water content which is beneficial for the skin. They help radiate your skin not only by hydrating it, but by plumping it as well. A good vegan diet is generally higher in vitamin C. Vitamin C is an essential nutrient necessary for the production of collagen that is responsible for the elasticity of the skin. By eating a lot of strawberries, oranges and kales, you will get rid of unnecessary skin wrinkles and maintain a healthy looking skin without having to constantly apply lotions or creams. However, a healthy diet for a good skin does not necessarily mean you go completely vegan

  1. Hair protection

Coughlin uses ordinary water to wash her hair as opposed to chlorinated water. Chlorine in water can damage hair and for a swimmer like her, this seems inevitable. To protect her hair, she uses a swim cap. For protection from drying from the suns heat, wear hats such as the Panama hats or fedoras that are extra large to offer shade to both the hair and the face especially in a sunny environment such as the beach. She also sheds light on how to put on makeup by styling the hair. Contrary to what most ladies do, she never does her hair on a regular basis. Application of too much heat to the hair dries it out stripping it of its moisture. This is worsened by the flat irons and hot rollers that are mostly used in hair styling.

  1. Nail painting

The idea of applying make shift nails is a daring move. However, it is a makeup trick that if applied correctly can complement your fingers. Nail panting is very delicate art to master. If you are good with makeup and have some hours to kill, then go for Coughlin’s favorite: Sephora nail stickers. The best part of these nail stickers is that they come already customized and decorated. They last for a long time when applied averagely the same duration as an ordinary manicure. This nail sticker comes loaded with a nail file that can be used to scrap off the excess nail sticker. Unless you are really good at applying manicure and will get it right on the first application, always use the nail file for a complementing finish.

  1. Eye makeup

Eye makeup such as the mascara and eye liners complement the way your eyes look and radiate. Good eye liners go with skin tone and Coughlin’s favorite is the brown mascara. This complements a light skin. Eye liners on the other hand should be applied on a fresh cleaned eye. If there is any residue from the previous day’s makeup, wash it clean with water before applying the fresh one. Liquid eyeliners are not very great especially if you are an athlete because they will easily drip off with sweat. However she recommends no eye makeup when doing any physical activity that leads to sweating as she is used to do.

Conclusion

In order to look great and stunning, you have to make a commitment towards the achievement of that objective. Commitment means abiding by certain principles no matter the odds. It is only then that you can achieve your set objectives. This is especially true for beauty transformation plans where commitment to routine cosmetic procedures and diet is fundamental.
