Estee Lauder Global Makeup Artist Victor Henao Speaks to Women of Chispa

Chispa Magazine

Providing words of wisdom for women of all seasons and all walks of life, Estée Lauder Global Makeup Artist Victor Henao gets personal and insightful as he unravels his mind.

Q: What are the the must-needed steps a woman-on-the-go should never do without?
A woman on the go should never leave her house without applying her basic morning regiment of skincare—it’s essential that even if you are not applying makeup you should never miss this step. If you are able to apply some sort of makeup, never be without: Foundation, mascara, a blush or a bronzer and some sort of color on the lip. This is what we call the 5-step-face™ at Estée Lauder.

Q: With the current essential oils craze, which oils do you recommend women to use as an
add-on to their beauty regimen?

Nutritious Radiant Vitality Essence Oil! It’s incredible for skin that has lost dullness and radiance; it hydrates and fortifies the skin. I recommend mixing it with your moisturizer or your foundation in the morning, or simply applying on its own before bed time after your night serum.

Q: Knowing that makeup trends, as with fashion, come and go, is there something “new” we
should be on the lookout for? Something “old” we should stay away from?
New: Look out for and embrace new textures in makeup. If shimmer is your thing, try something matte, and if matte is your thing, trying introducing something shimmery. There’s something really beautiful when you mix opposites in makeup. Old: I don’t know if there’s anything in particular I would stay away from. Just like style, beauty is such a personal reflection of one’s personal taste—I would never want to discourage a woman from being just that…herself!

Q: How do you define elegance?
To me elegance is being impeccable in the way you choose what you will wear, or how you will express yourself. Elegance begins with consciousness and awareness and is then followed by choices you make to execute your vision. There is nothing more beautiful on a person then a well thought-out look.

Q: How do you define fashion and beauty overkill?
Fashion and beauty overkill… by NOT being conscious and aware. If you don’t end up carefully editing your wardrobe or your beauty regiment, you will end up trying to be something or someone you are not. This is where developing your personal taste and figuring out what you ultimately love becomes essential.

Q: What’s next for the World of Victor when it comes to empowering women’s beauty?
Currently I’m enjoying what I do more than I ever have in my life and the world has been able to reward me in ways that I never even imagined for myself. So for now, I will continue to give 120 percent toward what I do, I love, and will cherish every moment. I truly believe I will be rewarded in yet another way I never even dreamed about.
