Allergy-Free Laundry and Cleaning Tips

Allergy-Free Laundry and Cleaning Tips-Chispa MagazineThere is hardly anything more annoying for someone suffering from allergies than puffy pollen anywhere in the air that happens to permeate the atmosphere during the height of the allergy season. And yes, fall is highly considered a season for allergies. Even though some allergens are present all around the year, with proper cleaning you will have a much better chance to make cleaning easier in the long run. You will never again have to suffer any watery eyes, itchy throats, and sneezing. Just follow the following simple guidelines and go for sticking to them as much as you can to avoid any issues in the future:

Reducing potential surfaces that allow the absorption of allergens. A good example of that is placing a tablecloth on your table, as it will collect dust and therefore allergens. If you don’t have one then wiping the surface will be quite easy. You should also consider sticking to minimal decorations to avoid this and to make carpet cleaning and other aspects of domestic cleaning far easier as you move forward. Anything that could collect dust can easily become a problem, so make sure you keep obstructions to a minimum.

Maintaining good indoor air quality. This can be done fairly easily with a humidistat to keep track of humidity levels inside your house or apartment, but that will take some doing. Use a dehumidifier if you must and always make sure you have your indoor level of moisture lower than 50 percent as anything above that would be excellent conditions for the spread of mold and mites.

Steam cleaning benefits. If you make use of steam cleaning, then you won’t have to deal with the usual chemicals used in so many households that become triggers for allergy attacks. The really good steam cleaners will have plenty of attachments and the ability to cook most germs to death without damaging the areas where you happen to use them. You could also make use of a HEPA-certified vacuum cleaner as well to clean quickly without this becoming a problem. This should let you handle cleaning safely and without provoking the spread of allergens all over the place, as would be the case with non-HEPA vacuum cleaners that could easily do more harm than good for those suffering of allergies.

Washing surfaces around the house. You should work on washing the bedding, shower curtains, and other washables to avoid spreading and collection of allergens as often as you can. This will also keep dust mites low as they will have less dust and dander to feed on. When we have no allergies, we often open the windows, but if we do the safest time to do so would be during the winter season or directly after a rainfall as the air will be most clear during that time.

Hiring professional help. If you have any difficulties dealing with cleaning on your own, you should consider avoiding such jobs by hiring a professional cleaning company to handle it all for you. If you think you may not be able to afford it, think again… care.com has reasonable rates and many local companies too.
