Getting Organized After Moving House Doesn’t Have To Be A Nightmare

Getting Organized After Moving House Doesn’t Have To Be A Nightmare-Chispa MagazineWe all know that moving house can be incredibly stressful. Packing up your home, transporting everything, then having to unpack and reorganize; it’s never going to be easy. As well as having to deal with this, you also need to take the time to transfer your utility services and other bills over, or find new providers. You also need to contact your bank, children’s school, and doctor’s office to let them know that you have moved. Ahh… When it comes to moving, there is a lot that needs to be organized.

Moving to a new home comes with lots of responsibilities, and a very long to-do list. While it can be hard to get on top of everything, it is possible to make things easier for yourself. To help you get yourself organized and your new home in ship shape, here are a few tips that you may find useful:

Don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you want to get your new home unpacked and organized as quickly as possible, you are going to need a little help. Don’t make the mistake of not asking for help just because you don’t want to burden anyone else.

If friends, family or neighbors offer to help you, make sure that you accept. Whether it’s offers of child care, home cooked meals, or help with unpacking, it doesn’t matter. After moving house, you need all of the help that you can get.

Be smart about unpacking. The first thing that you need to do is start your unpacking; just make sure that you are smart about it. Stick to unpacking one room at a time; this will make the process less overwhelming. You will find that you feel more accomplished unpacking rooms, rather than random boxes.

Opt to unpack the rooms that are most important first, such as the kitchen and family room, so that you have places to eat and relax in. If you have young children, unpacking the living room first is a must, so that you can keep them entertained while you work on the house.

Get rid of the boxes. After you have unpacked everything, you will be left with lots of empty boxes. You can get rid of these at your local recycling center, or you can flatten them down and store them. Just make sure that wherever you store them, that they are neatly stacked and out of the way. Don’t leave empty boxes lying around, as this will add more clutter to an already messy space.

Clean each room. Once you have finished the unpacking, the next step is to give each room a clean. You will find that after unpacking lots of boxes, your new home will be dirty and dusty. So each room will need a good clean before you can start using it, as well as your kitchen plates, utensils, and tools… they too get dusty in boxes.

Hoover and mop the floors; steam mops are great for this, and wipe down all surfaces. You will feel much happier once you know that your house is not only organized and unpacked but also clean.

Let people know that you have moved. The next thing that you need to do is get in touch with your utilities providers, bank and anyone else who needs to know that you have moved. If you have moved a long way from where you used to live, you might find that you need to choose new providers.

For example, the internet, water and electricity suppliers will vary, depending on where you live. To find out which providers serve the area that you have moved to, have a look online, and you should be able to find out.

Create a to-do list of all the people that you need to contact, from your doctor’s office to your children’s school and work through it. Aim to call three of the people on your list each day, so that within a few days you have contacted everyone who you need to.

Do you agree? Getting organized after moving house isn’t easy, but if you follow the tips above, you can make it a little less stressful.
