Home Improvement Ideas That Add Real Value

Home Improvement-Chispa MagazineWhen you have a home of your own, it’s something that is usually a work in progress. Even if you have got the basic parts exactly as you like them, there are still likely to be one or two things that you would like to improve, whether large or small.

Depending on your budget and ambitions, you may need to find a civil engineer and other contractors to make sure the job gets done to a high standard. Here are just a few ideas for some home improvement projects that add real value to your home.

Remodel the Kitchen
At the heart of the home, the kitchen is a place that many people decide to renovate. Though fancy new appliances and storage spaces are what a lot of people focus on, never underestimate the value of a good lick of paint. This can really update the look of your kitchen without breaking the bank. When it does come to getting new appliances, you should think about investing in energy efficient ones that help you save money while also being kinder to the environment.

Loft Conversion
Many people have an attic or loft that doesn’t tend to do much beyond being home to some long forgotten objects from days gone by. Though it represents a high initial investment, converting this space into an extra bedroom or a chillout room significantly adds value to your home. Not only this, it really allows you to get creative as you are designing a room from scratch for the very first time. An average remodelling job is likely to add thousands to your home’s cost, and also adds some much needed extra space.

Add Energy Efficiency
Nowadays, many house hunters have energy efficiency right at the forefront of their minds when they are looking for a new home. If you haven’t already, think about installing some double glazed windows. Also, adding insulation into the walls and the loft can really make a big difference. Not only will this work add value to your home, it will save you money on your annual heating bills. This means that over time, you will recoup your initial investment. There are also a number of smaller things you can do to add energy efficiency including investing in some thick rugs, curtains and drought excluders. Anything you can do to show that your home runs as efficiently as possible can only be a positive thing.

Utilize Your Outdoor Space
A great way to make the most of your outdoor space is with the addition of some decking. Increasingly, people are looking for a garden that they can enjoy in the warmer months. The introduction of decking creates a nice social area, particularly with the addition of some comfortable seating, outdoor heaters and lighting. The initial cost varies massively – many people attempt to do the job themselves as a way of saving money. Just like everything else, make sure to shop around if you are planning on employing a contractor.
