Fantastic Ways You Can Fill A Gap Year

Fantastic Ways You Can Fill A Gap Year-Chispa MagazineNot all of us will immediately head straight from university or college into a career. Some of us might take a year off, also known as a gap year. Others might take this year in between school and higher education. But, it’s important that you don’t waste your gap year because it’s a rather wonderful opportunity. You don’t want to spend it sitting on the sofa watching TV. Instead, you should think about how you can use it to either improve your career prospects or explore a whole new world. Let us show you what we mean with some great ways to fill your own gap year.

Travel
If you’re taking a year out, we can think of no better way to spend it than by traveling the world. By doing this, you are sure to encounter a whole variety of different sights and experiences. But, you will also be able to build up some great things to put on your resume. Many young students don’t realise that the broader their CV, the better. If you can say that you have taught orphans in Vietnam, English, you’ll be amazed at just how impressed potential employers are in a year. Or, if you can say that you have helped build homes in poor countries, you will quickly become a person employers want on their staff. Don’t just think of traveling as one long holiday because remember, you will need to pay for it.

Start A Blog
Traveling or not, starting a blog and making it a success is a great way to spend a gap year. If you’re travelling you can do some travel writing. It’s a good way to pay for your adventure. But, even if you’re staying put, you can still start a blog. We recommend basing the blog around a career that you think you’re going to head toward. But, you can write a blog about anything. To get the readers to make it a hit, you do need to remember to use tags. We wouldn’t recommend paying for a form of SEO as for a small blog this is a waste of money. By writing quality content you can easily increase the search ranking of your site without any outside help.

Learn New Skills
If you are traveling, don’t forget to try and learn as many new skills as you can. You never know, this type of experience could lead you to a new career. Have you ever been scuba diving? You might want to learn how. Once you’ve got a Divemaster course qualification you’ll be eligible for any job that involves diving. It will open up a bunch of new possibilities for you. You can think of it as a unique skill you can add to your resume. Or, your first step toward an exciting new career. The choice is yours.
