Planning An Extended Trip With Kids In Tow: Everything You Should Know

Family-Chispa MagazineNot all parents can afford to travel with their kids, so if you can, it’s important to make the most of it. Travelling allows you and your little ones to build even stronger bonds, by experiencing new things together. If you’ve always wanted to take an extended trip across the US, now could be the perfect time to do that. The question is, what’s the best way to go about it?

As someone who travels a lot, I thought I would share my top tips for planning an extended trip with the kids in tow.

Be smart about how you’ll get around. The first thing that you should know is that it’s important to be smart about how you’ll get around. The thing about kids is that they hate to travel if they’re uncomfortable, that’s why it’s so important to be smart about your vehicle of choice. As a parent, the best option for traveling on an extended trip with kids is to use an RV or car and travel trailer.

This will make traveling more enjoyable for you and your little ones; it’ll be like a home away from home. When it comes to choosing a suitable trailer, a Road Warrior design could be ideal. This is because these trailers are designed to be family-friendly and have lots of space inside. After all, everyone knows, kids need lots of space.

Have a plan in place. Regardless of whether you plan on traveling for a few weeks or a few months, it’s important to have a travel plan in place. This should consist of a list of all the places that you plan on visiting, including what order you want to visit them in. It should also state how many days/weeks you want to stay in each place.

This will help you book the right amount of time on each campsite and will allow you to ensure that you always have somewhere to stay. Having a plan in place will also give you and your little ones some structure, which is important. Children need structure, so having a plan in place is a must.

Research each location that you visit. As well as planning where you’ll be staying in each place, it’s also important to research what else each location has on offer. From it’s most popular sights and attractions to the best places to drink and dine, it’s worth taking the time to research each place properly.

That way, you’ll be able to get a good idea of how long you want to stay in each place for. If you’re unsure how long to stay in a certain place, use TripAdvisor to get an idea of how good for children it is. If there’s plenty to keep your little ones occupied, then you don’t have to stress as much about how long you stay. If however, what it has to offer is limited, it might be somewhere that you only spend a night or two at.

Planning an extended trip with the kids in tow takes a lot of work, as does all travel with kids. However, if you plan an amazing trip that is perfect for you and your family, you can have an incredible time.
