What to Consider Before Buying a Luxury Second Home in France

Eight Travel Destinations Perfect for Rest and Relaxation_Chispa MagazineFrance is a popular holiday destination for people from all over the globe. It is easy to see why too. It has a vast and varied land, ranging from beautiful countryside to historic cities. The coastline is just gorgeous, so it can be the perfect place to relax. It has a more sunny climate than a lot of places in Europe. Not to mention the delicious traditional French food and wine. If you haven’t been before, then why not? It needs to be on your bucket list for sure! If you have been and fallen in love with France, then you might consider getting a luxury second home there. You can spend the warmer months over there, as well as have an excuse to travel there as often as you would like. When you get to know the local people and experience life as they do, you will want to return year after year.

Think About Flexibility
If it is important to you to be able to drop everything and take a trip to France, then consider the flexibility of the property. You could consider renting the property out to others, but it obviously affects how soon you are able to use it. So if you’d rather be able to use it as and when you would like, then keep it that way. You want it to be a flexible home, suited to your needs. It also means that you can offer flexibility to family and friends should they wish to stay there.

Think About the Location
As they say with property searches, location is everything. So you need to think about where would be best to have a property. Think about your current location and how far certain areas of France are to get to. It is harder to have a weekend away in your maison secondaire if you will be spending a lot of the weekend traveling there. So think about the cost and time to travel to different regions.

There is, of course, the varying regions to think about carefully. Would you prefer to look for apartments for sale in somewhere like Paris, and have a city destination each time you visit? This is good in that there will always be a lot to see and do. It has good travel links to be able to visit other areas. It is a busy place, though, with lots of tourists in the summer months. You might prefer looking for a villa in a coastal location, to be able to relax by a beach or pool. In summer these areas are vibrant and busy. The restaurants and bars will be full of life. In the winter months, these areas and attractions can all close down somewhat. So if you want to visit all year round, is that what you would want? You could choose a countryside location, to hike and explore the area. If you are leaving your home empty for a few months at a time, would it be more likely to get broken into in an area like that? All considerations to think about what you want to get from your second home and the trips you will make.

Think About Maintenance
When you are going to have a second home, there will be times when it is left empty. To start with this might be fine. After a while, a home can naturally wear and tear and need a bit of tender loving care. If you plan to make regular visits over there, then great. If the trips might be a bit more sporadic, then you need to think about maintenance. It might be a better option to choose an apartment, as it will be a smaller space to maintain. If you have a garden or a pool to think about, it will all need regular maintenance. So choosing properties without might be a better option. A villa with a patio is easier to maintain, as there is no grass to cut or plants to take care of.

If you prefer to relax in style and have a pool, then you could always look for a recommended local person. They could be hired to service and maintain your pool, garden or property. Keeping in regular touch is key to making sure that things are going well, and as you’d like them.
