How The Internet Has Made Our Lives Better

Keep Business and Personal Separate_Chispa MagazineSome of you might remember a time before the internet, before knowledge and entertainment lay at at our fingertips and the click of a button. It was time before email and social media, when business and pleasure was done face to face and some may argue we were all much more connected.

However for those that think the internet has done nothing to improve our quality of life, think again.  Here are five ways in which the internet has improved life for everyone.

  1. Learn new skills – online learning has enabled millions of women to learn a new skill, return to school or improve employment chances without having to give up responsibilities or commitments such as work and family life.  It has opened up a whole world of opportunities to women returning to work after having a family or women that did not have the confidence in high school to reach their potential.  You can even choose to study for free on some websites such as Alison.com
  2. Build communities – whilst some may argue the rise of social media and blogs has seen the end of the community for others it has enabled them to stay connected and find a place in the world that they might not have done within their own offline communities. Women searching for ideas and support around gender and sex issues, injury or illness, mental health problems, substance abuse, grief and many many more can find other people online that share their experience. It can offer advice and guidance as well as a community so that people no longer have to feel alone, trapped or scared about what the world might think of them. One example is support and guidance for new Moms.
  3. Fund ideas – it is now even easier to turn your business ideas into a reality as the internet not only opens up opportunities for new business models such as paid for blogging but also access to business funding through crowdfunding platforms. This is empowering women of all ages to become entrepreneurs and make money around their family commitments.
  4. Increase our options – as well as funding business ideas, the internet has broaden our horizons when it comes to getting the best financial packages for our lifestyle.  You can search everything from which is the best credit card for world travel to how to get a home loan with bad credit? Being able to find the credit we need to fund our dreams has dramatically increased our options.
  5. Stay healthy – finally the internet is actually helping us to stay healthy in several ways.  Firstly it offers us plenty of health and safety tips and advice to help us stay in shape. It also provides more information about illnesses and how to manage them so that we can stay healthy for longer and finally it has led to the development of clever apps that can help us monitor everything from our blood pressure to cholesterol so that we can take control of our health.
