True Friendship Outlasts Any Last-Minute Gift

Friends For Life-Chispa MagazineDo you ever wonder if you’ll be friends with your besties when you’re old and grey? As we age, it can be hard to hold onto friends, especially when they have all of their own stuff going on. However, a small handful usually stay and its value is priceless.

Can You Have a Comfortable Silence?
Some people find silences hard to handle. When you’re true friends with somebody, a comfortable silence is nothing to you. You know you’ve found the one when you your friend can both sit in comfortable silence with one another and it’s totally fine.

Can You Tell Each Other Everything?
When you feel comfortable enough to tell one another everything, with no filter, you know you’re destined to stay friends. You tell them everything; the good, the bad, and then some. They know all of your deepest darkest secrets. The best part? They’d never dream of telling anybody! You can both trust one another to no end.

You’re Comfortable in One Another’s Homes?
You would each think nothing of strolling into the other’s house, putting the kettle on, and pulling out the cookie jar. You’re so comfortable, you would even take a nap if the feeling took you.

You Have Both Discussed the Future?
Just like a romantic relationship, the two have you have discussed the future. You’ve discussed going on vacation with each of your families that don’t even exist yet. You’ve discussed your bridesmaid’s outfits. The fact that you’ll be godparents to one another’s children… it just doesn’t need to be questioned. You know that it’s happening…

You Can Tell What The Other Is Thinking?
With just one look at your friend, you know what they’re thinking. Whether it’s a micro expression on their face or they haven’t flinched, you know what their gut reaction will be. They don’t even need to be near you. You know exactly how they would react to a certain situation. In fact, you’ve had spooky instances where you’ve both text/called one another at the same time. Sometimes about the exact same thing!

Can You Go Months Without Talking?
Although you’d never dream of going months without talking, you could; and it wouldn’t affect your friendship in the slightest! You can come back together after any amount of time and talk like you never left one another. Neither time nor distance make a difference to your relationship.

You’re Always There For One Another?
When you’re sad or you need a shoulder to cry on, your friend is there for you with a friendship hug. When they need somebody, you’re there in a heartbeat! You know if you had an emergency at 4 in the morning, you could call them and they’d answer the phone. They’re the person you’d turn to first if you needed advice or just an ear to listen.

You’re Both Completely Honest?
Being good friends is all about being completely honest with one another. Whether it’s about something big or something small, you’ll tell your friend the truth when it counts. If she wants your opinion on an outfit that you don’t like, you’ll tell her you don’t like it. However, you’d never make her feel bad about an outfit she loved (unless you thought she needed it). If you caught her boyfriend holding hands with another girl, you’d tell her in a heartbeat. Nothing could stop you from telling your friend the truth, because that’s what she deserves. Being honest can be hard, but you wouldn’t think twice of telling your friend what she needed to hear.

Arguments Never Last Long?
When you’re friends a long time, arguments are normal. But with you two, they never last long! It doesn’t matter who was right and who was wrong, you both quickly get over it and act like it never happened. You just can’t stay mad at one another for very long.

You Know Your Strengths and Weaknesses?
Your friend knows your strengths and weaknesses, and you know theirs. You suggest things one another would be good at. You encourage them to make the best of themselves and their lives. You lift them up and make them feel good about themselves when they need it most.

You Don’t Let One Another Down Without Good Reason?
You and your friend make plans together, but you don’t let one another down without a good reason. When a reason does come up, you understand. There are no issues; you both know that life gets in the way sometimes. You always rearrange any plans you’ve made to compensate.

You Give One Another Your Undivided Attention?
In this day and age, everybody is so obsessed with technology. Although you and your friends might have your moments, you make sure they get your attention when they need it most. You don’t scroll through Facebook while they’re talking to you, and neither do they.

They Have Your Back?
Whatever happens, you and your friend have one another’s backs for life. You’d never let anybody bully them or put them down in public, and you know they wouldn’t stand for it either. If somebody has wronged them, it almost feels as if they’ve wronged you too. You know if anybody ever hurt them, you’d be there in a heartbeat. You feel more offended when somebody hurts your friend than when they hurt you.

Does this sound like you and your best friend? As the New Year approaches, continue to put the effort into your relationship… create an environment where you both can bloom and be shade for one another.
