Team Bonding Made Easy

Never Underestimate the Importance of Networking-Chispa MagazineEmployees can grow into some of your best friends and most trusted advisors if you give them room to grow. It takes a lot of time and money before you can build a solid relationship with your employees, but if you put enough effort in then it’s going to be one of the best choices you could’ve made for your business.

However, not every business owner gets it right the first time. Of course, there are different ways to run a business and depending on the type of workplace you run, you might not care at all about your employee’s relationships with you if you want to keep it purely professional. However, there’s no doubt that for a small business, it’s essential that you bond with your team.

Unite Under a Common Goal
You can’t grow a company if you don’t share your vision with your employees. Everyone’s on the same train so you all have to understand the destination you’re headed towards. When you get new recruits, make sure that you tell them what you are aiming towards as a business and have them contribute to your goals. If you and your team can unite under a common goal, then it makes decisions easier, it makes your workplace more productive, and you’re going to have an easier time explaining things to your staff.

Give Your Team Time to Relax
If you work on a per-contract basis, then give your team some time to relax between long periods of hard work. There are many company team building services and events than you can participate in if you want to give your employees a break for a few days or even just a few hours. You could take them to some tours around the world, museums or even art galleries to give them time to bond together and build a more productive and friendly team.

Let Them Know You’re Willing to Listen
Employees can maintain a good relationship among themselves given enough time and if they have compatible personalities, but bonding with you (the boss) is another issue. The leader of a company naturally has a harder barrier to penetrate, so make it a habit of speaking to your employees and letting them know you’re willing to listen to them. The easier you are to approach, the more likely your employees will approach you and suggest changes or give advice on how to improve productivity within your business. A simple way to let them know you’re available is to never shut yourself into your office. Leave the door open and when you’re on a break, walk around the office and greet your staff.

Don’t Shoot the Messenger
As the boss, you need to understand that not everything you hear is going to be positive. Sometimes you’ll run into a negative situation and you’re going to hate it, but there’s no use shouting at the employee that told you and telling them to “fix it”. You need to remain calm in the face of adversity. Don’t let your emotions get the best of you and you absolutely must not take it out on your employees. Work together with your staff to solve the issue and make use of the team that you put together.
