You’ve finally discovered what your purpose in life is and you now want to start aligning your life with that purpose. So how do you go about finding a job or career that’s aligned with your purpose?
It’s not as difficult as you think. And working in a field that is more close to your beliefs, skills and values can be incredibly rewarding. Here are some suggestions to get you started.
What Types of Jobs are Available?
Firstly you will want to find out what types of jobs are available in the field you want to work in. Do some research online and try asking friends and family. Make a list of all the available areas of work that you could enter.
Work out What the Requirements Are for Each Area of Work
Do you need qualifications or previous experience to fill the positions you like? Let’s say your purpose is to work with children. Some areas of work that you might like to consider can be childcare, teaching or even healthcare. There are a myriad of work opportunities in these areas. Scan your local newspaper, job board or the many online employment agencies to find the type of positions offered.
Nowadays there are many courses offered online, which you can study part-time without disrupting your current work and family commitments. For example, if you like children and would like to work in healthcare, there is an excellent pediatric nurse practitioner program offered online by Regis College. The Regis School of Nursing is recognized as a top pediatric nurse college by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing and the National League for Nursing.
What if I Need Experience in My Chosen Field?
If your chosen career path is out of reach, there are many possibilities of gaining experience in the field you want to work in. One of the best ways is to do some volunteer work outside of your normal work hours. You may even be able to negotiate with your current employer for reduced hours if you can afford a slight drop in pay.
Also ask leaders in your local community what volunteers programs need additional volunteers in the field that interests you.
You could also see if there are any part time jobs available outside of your normal working hours that could be suitable even if it’s only a few hours each week.
Use your current experience to seek some kind of work in an organization that aligns with your purpose.
For example if you’re experienced in administration duties, try and find an admin position in such an organization. In this way you’ll already be working in the environment you want to end up in and you might find that your new employer would be very keen for you to take on further study to progress your career.
So you now know that the prospect of finding a job that aligns with your purpose need not be a daunting one. Do some research and, most importantly, talk to professionals in your chosen field and you’ll end up in a fulfilling career before you know it.
