Five Steps for Designing a Stunning Poster

Designing-Chispa MagazineGot a big event coming up that you need to promote with an eye-catching poster? Perhaps you want to create a poster to use on your social media accounts? Or maybe you want to create one to sell via an online marketplace?

Whatever the reason, crafting a poster of real quality is something that can be effective as either a sales tool or a product to sell. Yet, the problem with this is actually manufacturing a poster that has a design that will grab the attention of the public.

If you are struggling to do just that, read on for five important steps to creating a stunning poster.

Have an idea in mind. The main thing about design is having a solid plan of action in mind from the start. If you’re not quite sure what type of poster you want to create, trying to create it on the fly is unlikely to produce the best results. So before you settle on an idea, take your time to think, sketch out a few rough drawings, and eventually expose that killer design you have locked in your brain.

Take inspiration from others. In addition to the previous step, looking at the works of others can help with providing inspiration. Websites like DeviantArt and Behance have many talented artists that share their original creations—a quick browse of some of the highest rated designs should assist in getting your creative juices flowing.

Although note: try and avoid completely plagiarizing a design you like.

Choose your platform. Now that your idea is locked into place, how you decide to produce your poster is the next big step. Obviously, if you are competent with the likes of Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator, using one of these is the best bet due to their wealth of features. However, if you are just a beginner in the world of design, a specialist online poster maker is arguably the way to go. With this type of platform, you have the ability to craft a professional design without needing in-depth knowledge of any software.

Hire a professional. If you don’t feel confident with creating a poster on your own or would like your design to receive a little refinement, hiring the services of a professional is suggested. Not only will they throw their own ideas into the mixing bowl, but a professional designer will know how to cook up a poster that will attract interest from potential customers. At least, that is assuming you go with a respected freelancer and not with the cheap option.

Watch the details. Once that design is almost finished, it is time to start checking things over with a microscope. This means that you should be observing to see if there are any minor graphical errors that will show up once the poster is blown up to full-size. Moreover, it is also vital that you double-check for any spelling errors—it is surprising just how many can slip through the cracks.
