Stuck in a Rut? How to Kick-start Your Career Again.

Why Failure Is Necessary for Success, Christy Wright-Chispa MagazineSome people are happy to have a job and not a career. They use their job to support themselves and their free time is what they focus on more. However, others want to make a career for themselves, since we all have to spend so much time working. If you have to work, you might as well be ambitious and develop your professional life. Often your career can progress as you want it to, but many of us have times when we feel stuck. You can feel like you’re not going anywhere, either because there are no opportunities or you’ve lost your drive. When this happens, there are always things you can do.

Set Your Sights on a Promotion
Sometimes you can feel stuck because you’ve been in the same position too long. You might notice that other people are getting promoted above you, while you stay in the same place. It’s important to remember that promotions don’t always just happen to you. Although, sometimes they might be a nice surprise. Most of the time, you have to work for them. You need to show your bosses that you’re worthy of having greater responsibility. If you want a promotion, you have to set your sights on it and work toward it. If you’re unsure, you can even ask what you would need to do to show that you’re capable.

Continue Your Education
You might feel that you have hit a dead end. You want to move up the career ladder, but you don’t have the right experience or qualifications. When this happens, going back into education could be an option for you. You might have thought you were done with school forever, but it’s never too late to learn more. For example, if you’re a registered nurse, you could take an RN to BSN course. By converting your associate’s degree into a bachelor’s degree, you could have further opportunities. Sometimes your employer will even help to pay for your extra training.

Change Employer
Are you happy with your role at work but still feel like you’re stuck? If you get home every day and complain about your employer, perhaps it’s time for a change. You might love your job but not be as keen on your working environment. Finding a new employer could be the solution to your problem. You could search for a position where you get to perform the same tasks, but the working environment and conditions could be improved.

Change Careers
If you’ve become completely disenchanted with your whole career, maybe it’s time to switch paths entirely. It’s never too late to begin a new career, and you don’t always have to start right at the bottom. You might have skills from your current career that are transferable to something new that you want to try. If you are thinking of a career change, find out what you would need to do to make it happen. It could be easier than you think.
