Want A Great Job? First, You’ve Got To Get Through College

Want A Great Job-You've Got To Get Through College-Chispa MagazineYou might have the dream of working in a high paid job doing something that you love. Or, something that you’re at least interested in. It’s a lot better than working for hours a day on a job that you don’t care about and have very little enjoyment for. But the only way to get that high paying job is to head to college and pass with flying colors. You might think that there are entrepreneurs who make it big without attending a single college class. It’s important to realize these individuals represent the exception, not the rule. Most people who find success in the business world will have a college degree. These days many people will have more than one. So, if you’re not planning on going to college, you should only be asking yourself one question. Are you sure you’re that good?

If you are planning on going to college, you’re still going to face a lot of challenges trying to get through higher education. Let’s examine a few of these hurdles, how to handle them, and how they can prepare you for the business world.

Budgeting
Budgeting is always fun at college because usually, you have two types of people. You have people that can afford anything. These are the ones who are still living off their parents, even as they become independent. Then, you have people who are forced to live on a budget. Believe it or not, it’s the people forced to live on a budget who are better off. They will quickly learn the value of money and how they can get by without using all their resources. It’s going to serve them well in social life and could even provide them with the experience they need to run a business. You might not realize this, but a huge part of the business owner’s role is to manage funds. If you learn how to do this early, you’ll be in the perfect position to set up a company by yourself.

If you struggle to budget in college, you need to think about what you need and what you want. Need should always trump want. For instance, you need college books to learn. You might want to go out drinking at least once a week. Always make sure you put your needs above your wants. As well as this, look for ways to cheapen the cost of your wants. Most colleges have a discount night where drinks cost less. This is the best time to go out and any other night you might want to avoid.

Time Management
Time management is another skill you should learn in college that will benefit you in later life. In university, you’re going to be constantly working towards deadlines. But they are not going to be anywhere near as tight compared to the deadlines you’ll face in the office. If you can handle them in college, it will prepare you to handle them in the working world. But time management is still tricky, and it’s not something that anyone gets right first time. Either we think we have more time than we do. Or, we struggle to use the time that we have. Planning and writing a schedule will help here a great deal. But it’s not the only thing that you need to be aware of.

You need to know what to do when you’re not going to make a deadline. In university, if you don’t make a deadline, it’s not going to be the end of the world. Your grade might drop slightly, or you might even fail the paper, but it’s not going to cause you to fail the entire year. In the business world, failing a deadline could lose you a big business deal. It could even cost you your job. That’s why it’s worth knowing how to handle an issue like this in college. In the business world, you’d use outsourcing to complete an impossible deadline. In college, you can do the same thing. If you don’t think you’re going to get all your research papers completed, you can look into buying a research paper online. In a way, this is a form of college outsourcing. You get someone else to write a paper that you don’t have time for. Obviously, this should be viewed as a solution for emergency situations. But at the same time, it could be beneficial whenever you might fail a deadline. You could even have it on hand as a backup, or the best idea would be to have it at hand and then contribute your own ideas to the research.

Another way to time manage effectively is to know what classes and lectures you need to attend. You might be thinking; surely I need to attend them all. Well not necessarily. There might be some lectures who post all their slides and notes online. If that’s the case, you can get all the info you need without attending the class. Some, surprisingly do work completely from a textbook and therefore their lectures are pointless. Our advice is to go to all your lectures and classes at the start of the year. You can then work out which ones you can afford to miss to help you meet deadlines.

Stress + Pressure
The last problem you’re going to face at college is the amount of stress and pressure. On occasion, we imagine it will reach a point where you think it’s too much to handle. Many people find this is the case. That’s why there are so many college dropouts. If you can get through the pressure of university, it should tell you something. It will show you that you can handle a high pressured job. Once you reach the top of an industry or business, all jobs are high pressure. If you struggle under the pressure of college, you might want to limit your expectations for your career. You’ll find reaching the top a very steep climb indeed. Of course, there are ways to deal with stress, and that’s something you want to look into during your college years.
